Summary

From The Brighter the Light author Mary Ellen Taylor comes the emotional story of a mother and daughter learning to endure life’s twists and turns as they grieve a loss and face an uncertain future。

When artist Dani Peterson learns she’s slowly losing her vision, she becomes unmoored。 Her ex-husband died only months before, leaving Dani and her preteen daughter grief stricken。 Suddenly, the life Dani built for her family on the Outer Banks feels like a painful reminder of all they’ve lost。

On a whim, Dani sells her waterfront home and buys an old farm inland near the Virginia state line。 But Dani’s daughter recoils at the sudden, drastic change。 The Outer Banks’ sun-swept beaches, pink dawns, and savage storms are all she’s ever known。

But Dani is resolute, and the pair move to Virginia to embark on a challenging renovation。 That summer, their efforts to turn a run-down silo into an art studio bring forth new friends, new loves, and new challenges。

As mother and daughter navigate the fiercest storm of their lives, they learn that instead of waiting for the skies to clear, they can withstand the wind and rain, so long as they do it together。

This was my first time reading a book by Mary Ellen Taylor and I was not disappointed。 When the Rain Ends is a heartfelt, poignant novel of a mother and daughter and their struggle to survive loss in many forms。 Every character in the story is dealing with grief in some manner, and yet, the story is filled with new beginnings and hope。 I think the story was well thought out and would recommend it to readers who enjoy women's fiction with somewhat heavy themes but told in a lighter manner。 Many t This was my first time reading a book by Mary Ellen Taylor and I was not disappointed。 When the Rain Ends is a heartfelt, poignant novel of a mother and daughter and their struggle to survive loss in many forms。 Every character in the story is dealing with grief in some manner, and yet, the story is filled with new beginnings and hope。 I think the story was well thought out and would recommend it to readers who enjoy women's fiction with somewhat heavy themes but told in a lighter manner。 Many thanks to the author for the chance to read an advanced copy。 。。。more

When the Rain Ends by Mary Ellen Taylor is an inspirational read。 I felt drawn into this story from the very beginning。 Dani Manchester's ex-husband has recently died which has hit her preteen daughter Bella very hard。 Add in the fact that Dani's eyesight is getting worse due to the disease Retinitis Pigmentosa and you have the makings of a very poignant, yet entertaining read。 I really liked reading about the relationship between Dani and Bella。 They love each other so much so they are good for When the Rain Ends by Mary Ellen Taylor is an inspirational read。 I felt drawn into this story from the very beginning。 Dani Manchester's ex-husband has recently died which has hit her preteen daughter Bella very hard。 Add in the fact that Dani's eyesight is getting worse due to the disease Retinitis Pigmentosa and you have the makings of a very poignant, yet entertaining read。 I really liked reading about the relationship between Dani and Bella。 They love each other so much so they are good for each other during these trying times。 Then there's Jackson Cross。 What a wonderful, caring man! When the Rain Ends is a book that tugs at the heartstrings。 I have always loved reading her novels, but this is one of my favorites。 She describes grief in such a way that it had me reflecting about losing a loved one。 Each character is strong and pushes through the days with all the willpower that he or she has。 In the end the pain they are suffering is too unbearable to withstand。 I like how the novel portrays how each individual deals with their pain。 I could connect with each character becau When the Rain Ends is a book that tugs at the heartstrings。 I have always loved reading her novels, but this is one of my favorites。 She describes grief in such a way that it had me reflecting about losing a loved one。 Each character is strong and pushes through the days with all the willpower that he or she has。 In the end the pain they are suffering is too unbearable to withstand。 I like how the novel portrays how each individual deals with their pain。 I could connect with each character because I know that at times, I have dealt with it in the same way。 At times I found myself frustrated with the main character because she would not allow herself to deal with her feelings。 She felt that she had to be strong so her daughter and loved ones wouldn’t see her pain。 She truly is an amazing individual, and a beautiful person inside and out。 She loves and protects anyone。 I highly recommend this book but keep a box of Kleenexes close because it can bring out the pain the reader is feeling。 It is a book that will make you cry, and smile。 Losing a loved one is never easy, but this story has a way of getting the reader to reflect on their loved ones and the beautiful memories we have of them。 Truly an amazing book, that will keep you reading until the very end! 。。。more

Family drama, Snarky pre-teen and dogs…。Mary Ellen Taylor at her best。 The emotions in this book are so realistic from my point of view。 Uprooting her daughter after a sudden loss, devastating vision diagnosis and moving/renovating a silo into an art studio are just a few of the things on Dani’s plate, then she goes and falls in love。 Her life is so full and then we have grief camp for Dani’s daughter Bella。 So much going on in this book it was very entertaining and also educational。 Great visit Family drama, Snarky pre-teen and dogs…。Mary Ellen Taylor at her best。 The emotions in this book are so realistic from my point of view。 Uprooting her daughter after a sudden loss, devastating vision diagnosis and moving/renovating a silo into an art studio are just a few of the things on Dani’s plate, then she goes and falls in love。 Her life is so full and then we have grief camp for Dani’s daughter Bella。 So much going on in this book it was very entertaining and also educational。 Great visit to the “Outer Banks” region。 Would love to read additional stories about this group of folks。 。。。more

First, I have to say; I loved this book。 After reading The Brighter the Light, I wanted more of Dani’s story。 Well, this book gave me plenty。 It tells of the strength and conviction of a mother to help her daughter manage the grief of losing her father while dealing with a devastating personal tragedy of her own。 As an artist and business owner, she now has to face the fact that she is losing her sight。 How does she manage her new life and protect her daughter from more trauma?。 Losing her mothe First, I have to say; I loved this book。 After reading The Brighter the Light, I wanted more of Dani’s story。 Well, this book gave me plenty。 It tells of the strength and conviction of a mother to help her daughter manage the grief of losing her father while dealing with a devastating personal tragedy of her own。 As an artist and business owner, she now has to face the fact that she is losing her sight。 How does she manage her new life and protect her daughter from more trauma?。 Losing her mother to her illness at a young age left an impact on Dani。 She watched how her mother handled her illness, always smiling and showing an optimistic attitude for others。 She tries to portray that same positive outlook to her daughter to protect her from what is coming。 Her sunny disposition isn’t working this time。 She needs help and must learn to accept it from not only her family, but from a man who might add a permanent light back into her life。 This story isn’t just about dealing with grief。 It shows how to find hope in even the most difficult times of your life。I was honored to receive and ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review。 It was my pleasure to provide one。 。。。more

This beautifully written book is about a mother and her daughter at a crucial point in both of their lives。 It's a story of coping with grief and learning how to go on with life and how to rely on other people to help you through difficult times in life。Dani is an artist and has just learned that due to an eye disease, she'll be losing her vision in the future。 Her life is in turmoil, her ex-husband (but still good friend) has just died in a car accident and she's working to help her daughter Be This beautifully written book is about a mother and her daughter at a crucial point in both of their lives。 It's a story of coping with grief and learning how to go on with life and how to rely on other people to help you through difficult times in life。Dani is an artist and has just learned that due to an eye disease, she'll be losing her vision in the future。 Her life is in turmoil, her ex-husband (but still good friend) has just died in a car accident and she's working to help her daughter Bella cope with life without her dad in it。 Dani decides to move from their home in the Outer Banks of NC to an inland farm near the Virginia border and she's taking Bella away from the only home that she's ever known。 Bella feels betrayed - not only does she have to learn to navigate life without her father but she's left behind all of her friends and the comfort of a home she loved。 Most of the time, instead of lashing out at her mother, she stuffs her feelings inside and works to present a calm personality。 But at 12, she does have bouts of anger and resentment and her mother is her favorite target。 She's very resentful that her mother has signed her up for a 2 week grief camp for children who have lost someone close because she doesn't want to share her closely held feelings。Dani has always kept her true feelings from the world around her - ever since her mother died when she was very young。 She is extremely worried about losing her sight but doesn't share it with her daughter or her new boyfriend。 She absolutely doesn't want anyone to feel sorry for her and wants to continue her life as a gallery owner。Grief is difficult to navigate and affects everyone differently but it's absolutely crucial to have people to depend on。 Will Bella learn to depend on her mother over the loss of her father and will Dani ever be able to tell Bella about her eye issues that will cause her to lose her sight? Will they both realize that together they can face whatever life brings their way? This book is beautifully written and well written characters。 Dani was a great example of a mother trying cope with changes in her life and Bella was a perfect example of a pre-teen girl who can go from happy to angry very quickly。 These are two characters and a splendid story that I won't soon forget。 。。。more

It is a story about managing grief。 People respond in different ways and the story depicts and explores both effective and ineffective ways。 It is a moving story as the characters move through the grief process and come to terms with their grieving。 The characters are genuine and human。 The grief camp for children is a very successful approach。 Though at times sad, I found the book moving and informative。
